Once a thriving shipping hub, the Dublin Docklands fell into disrepair in the 1970s-80s. In the late 1990s, the Dublin Docklands Authority set about redeveloping the Docklands area in an attempt to bring technology and enterprise back to Dublin. The arrival of a new European headquarters for Google on the docks changed everything, with a sudden influx of major technology companies firmly initiating the Docklands as ‘The Silicon Docks.’
